Notes: Diane von Fürstenberg

14079885_10154353134090761_2568458359531648185_n-1Few years ago, I did not know who Diane von Fürstenberg is. However, now she is one of my favorite fashion designers. For me, she is very inspiring, not only as a fashion designer but also as a person, as a woman and as a fighter. But how did I get to know about DVF at the first place?

Well, as  a curious person, I always love getting to know the story behind the dresses or shoes that I have been wearing. During my free time, I often searched for articles, videos or book about those designers, and this is including DVF. I watched  some of her talks and speeches on the Youtube, I also read her memoir “The Woman I Wanted To Be” that I purchased in DVF headquarter in New York few months back. As I finished reading her memoir, I have a great admiration to her. She came across as an incredible woman and extremely inspiring. She is very determine, courageous, adventurous, selfless and also has strong wills within herself.

I myself started falling in love with DVF since I was in love with her iconic jersey wrap dress which she released in the 70s for the very first time. However, I cannot remember clearly how I started falling in love with DVF dresses. Perhaps, if I am not mistaken, it might happen in early 2014 when I started to leave the party night scene.

Back then, I got bored with my collections which tend to be number of bandage dresses, jeans, long sleeve shirt and cropped top. Don’t get me wrong, they are beautiful collections but they tend to be just sexy but not elegant. Other than that, perhaps I also got older. As a result, I wanted something that is more elegant and classy.  Yet, for I like the clean-cut dresses, I had no idea where to find my dream dresses.

So one day, I strolled around Jakarta shopping malls to find the clean-cut yet elegant dresses. After entering boutique after boutique, I finally found my first wrap dress. But it was not DVF wrap dress, it was a BCBGmaxazria wrap dress. I like its fabric, jersey; they are light and look elegant. I like the way it drops as I wear it. Although I loved its prints, it was slightly too shinny and I did not really like it.

Hence, as I really liked the style, I looked for my second wrap dress which looks less shinny. And here was I at DVF boutique in Plaza Indonesia, I found a heaven with plenty  of wrap dresses hanging on the rack. I picked some and tried them on, they indeed looked very sexy and elegant. I said to myself that I could wear them any kind of events, including function event, dinner or even to work. They seem to be very effortless to put on.

Since then, I often go to DVF boutique regularly to check some of their latest collections. Not to get them right away tho but wait until the end-of-season sales coming; that way I can save some money and plan what I wanted to buy. Not forget to mention that  I would normally get up to 70 percent off from its real price by shopping on the end-of-season sales. Now, I got some of DVF collections ranging from wrap dresses, romper, shirt dresses, silk shirts as well as cardigan.

Another added point of DVF is that unlike many sales girls in the high-end boutique who will not be friendly to customers if customers buy nothing, most of DVF girls also have good attitude, they are not pushy. They will not force you to buy if they do not suit you well. Be they working in Jakarta boutique, Singapore boutique or NYC store in West Village.

And that is how I got to know who Diane von Fürstenberg is and end up really admiring her as an iconic woman in fashion industry as well as a person. I must say that I learnt a lot from her memoir “The Woman I Wanted To Be“.

Although something gets me thinking and wondering whether or not DVF dresses are sustainably manufactured. As I understand that Diane von Fürstenberg is about woman empowerment and loves natures, does it mean that DVF also implements sustainable business practice in its production through its supplier which has a significant impact to its labors as well as environment around it? As some of you might be aware that DVF has moved its production from Italy to China and China has an urgent environment problem when it comes to garment industry. Having this question being answered actually will determine whether or not I will get my next DVF.

Indonesia: Indonesia’s First Lady vs Myself

I love fashion and I am allergic to counterfeit. Fashion is a piece of art that is why it is very important for designer to register their trademark, therefore it would not be copied. But apparently the Indonesia’s First Lady Ani Yudhoyono loves to wear FAKE Burberry. She said that she purchased her scarf in factory outlet and the real stuff is not sold in the factory outlet but authorised shop in Senayan City or Plaza Indonesia. It is way better that she is wearing batik than fake burberry scarf.  Am I right?

I think Ibu Ani needs to learn about fashion from her daughter in-law Annisa Pohan, who is a former model. What do you think?

It has been raining a lot in these last three days. Gray cloud keep covering Jakarta blue sky and block the warm of the sun light. It is wet, misty and grey. I don’t like this kind of weather because it is unable me to do outdoor activity. It also makes me feeling blue and gloomy.

Anyhow the universe has been quite kind to us this morning. Despite the fact it was cloudy, I still could enjoy warm weather outside and we (E and I) decided to go for brunch at Four Season Hotel. Brunch on Saturday? Well, why not?!

Today actually we celebrated our five years anniversary. Unlike the previous years that we would go for vacation to celebrate it, we chose to have a simple brunch in Jakarta, followed by going to the gym together and watching Pacific Rim.

So for the outfit of the day, I decided to go for orange. I wore my own design abhaya skirt, crop top and strap wedges sandal for a simple celebration. I really like to combine the abhaya skirt with crop top because it is a combination of the ‘old’ and the ‘new’ style. On the top of that, I love the orange color domination. It is very simple, classic yet edgy. Don’t you think so?

Okay readers, have a great weekend!

Summer Time [2013: E R]

It was 9: 20 a.m. I just woke up from my 12 hours of sleep. I still felt tired and sleepy. I really wanted to go back to sleep as I felt as dead as dodo bird. But I had to go to church to attend 11 a.m Sunday service.

So I opened the curtains, the sun was nearly blinding and I could not see a cloud in the sky.  Geez… what a beautiful day?! I said to myself. I dragged  myself outta the bed, got into shower and got ready for Sunday service.

When I stood in front of my wardrobe, I picked  the red blue checkered summer dress and manon heels for this Sunday service.  I thought that it would be perfect for this beautiful sunny day. Other than that, this is an appropriate outfit for church service.

Honestly, I really like the fact that the dress has a gold plate as a neckline. I  love this dress so much. It is quite classy yet sophisticated.

Few days ago, Naia and I had agreed to spend the weekend together to do some photo shoot for our blog. Well, we are not model and we are not trying to be one. We just love fashion and want to share our fashion sense in our blog. Perhaps, we are trying to be a fashion blogger as it seems to be fun.

Apparently, it was very cloudy when I woke up this morning. I thought that our appointment would be cancelled if it is raining. Fortunately, the sun kept shinning, the cloudy day turned out to be a beautiful sunny day. It was really perfect day to go out and do some outdoor activities with her.

Since I fell in love with crop top, I decided to wear denim bustier crop top and jeans. It is quite edgy yet chic. Unfortunately, dressing up this way made many people look at me strangely as if I am alien. But who cares anyway, I love what I wear.

Wardrobe: Sunday Street Glam

It’s Sunday again and it’s a very beautiful sunny day!

As always, every Sunday I go to St. Theresia church Menteng to attend 11 a.m church service. But today, I am a lil bit confused about what kind of outfit I should wear today because the weather is quite hot outside but I cannot wear something too sexy to the church.

So here I am … finding one of my old little black dress collection and jeans vest from my wardrobe. I have been neglected this little black dress for couple years. If I am not mistaken, I might only wear it couple times since I purchased it. So I tried to mix and match them together. And…. I love it a lot!

It is glamour yet simple  with a little bit touch of street wear.

Ztreet Queen: Abhaya Skirt

I am in my Abhaya Skirt [2013: E R]

I always love traditional textile, be it batik, songket, ikat, sarong or tenun. Unfortunately, I always find it difficult to find a ready wear outfit, which is made from traditional textile, that matches to my taste. Hence I always designed my own outfit.

Well, some people say that there is nothing new under the sun and I would say that my design is not particularly original. But I often put a little detail on my design such as button, zipper or line.

Here it is my latest design, A-line skirt, which is made from orange and green Cambodian silk.  The skirt has no waistline and use invisible zipper on the left side. And I named it  Abhaya skirt, which means fearless skirt.

Somehow, I really like my Abhaya skirt because I can wear it for formal meeting or hanging out with friends. It all depends on what kind of top that I am wearing with.

So what do you think?
