Notes: My Clothes, Your Clothes

Are you wearing fast fashion products either it is from Zara, Pull & Bear, H&M, Bershka and any other? How often do you buy a new outfit? And….have you ever wondered who makes your clothes, under what condition, how do they make it or where do they make it? Well, let me tell you a story.

SONY DSC

Yesterday, my friends and I went to an interesting yet eye-opening trip. We visited one  ready made garment factories in Bangladesh. This trip gave us the opportunity to see how our clothes are manufactured from the scratch. Located 35 kilometer from Dhaka, the factory is owned and run by Beximco Group, a Bangladeshi multinational company. The company manufactures products for a wide range of clients ranging from Zara, Pull&Bear, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger to DKNY. According to its official website, currently the company’s Textile & Apparel Division employs more than 5,150 people.

Bangladesh is known as the second largest ready made garment producer after China. The industry has become one of the largest export earning contribution to the country. According to Dhaka based newspaper The Daily Star, the industry has generated export earning up to USD 28.67 billion as of December 2016. The industry hopes to increase to USD 50 billion by 2021.

SONY DSCThe Bangladesh textile and garment industry employs approximately 4 million people. Most of the workers are women. Every month, they earn approximately 7,000 to 10,000 BDT, this figure is actually slightly higher than its minimum wage which is at 5,300 BDT. According to various local media report, the worker union is demanding that the minimum wage should be increased to 16,000 BDT.

Some of you might remember the 2013 Rana Plaza incident which caused more than 1,100 killed and 2,500 injured; this incident is known as the deadliest industrial disaster ever. Since the incident, the Bangladesh’s textile and apparel industry claims that they have been making effort to improve the factory condition that meet the safety standard. Yet, as we walked around the factory and learnt about its production process, I noticed that many textile and apparel workers are exposed to high level of noise from the machines as well as chemical hazards without any protection which you can see from my pictures. This condition is feared to have a significant impact to the worker’s health. Not forget to mention that many of them spend hours to standing or sitting while doing their work. This made me wonder how much the 2013 Rana Plaza incident has really brought changes to the textile and garment’s industry in Bangladesh.

I must say that this trip has reflected upon me that despite the fact that Bangladesh has become a centre of ready-made garment manufacturing for many global fashion brands, the country is still severely underdeveloped. Additionally, workers tend to have terrible conditions while others get massive profits. Yet, without this sector millions would be unemployed.

Notes: Jogging on Jakarta’s Road

My recent achievement [2015:E O]

My recent achievement [2015:E O]

In these past few months, I have been enjoying my new morning routine, which is an early morning jogging on the road.  What? An early morning jogging on the road in Jakarta? Really?! Yes! I do an early morning jogging on the road in Jakarta, one of the most polluted city in the world.

I actually have been enjoying an outdoor running since early 2014. I used to do morning jogging in the Soemantri Brodjonegoro’s jogging track, part of Soemantri Brodjonegoro’s sport center in Setiabudi Subdistrict of South Jakarta. However since companies rent the sport center for some company’s event week after week, I decided  to do my morning jogging on the road than running on a treadmill in the gym.

According to Nike+, I usually do jogging for as far as 4.5 kilometers on week days and go for as  8.4 kilometers on the weekend. It does not take me long to do 4.5 kilometers of jogging, it only takes me maximum of 30 minutes. On the other hand, it takes me maximum of 55 minutes to do 8.4 kilometers of jogging. Not bad ay? Not bad at all!

As an early morning routine, jogging on the road taught me three things – time management, which side of the road that I run on and the type of shoes that I should wear.

Coffee is the best mood booster [2014: EO]

Coffee is the best mood booster [2014: EO]

What is it about jogging on the road and time management? Well, if you happened to live or visit Jakarta, you would understand’s Jakarta traffic. It is insane and I don’t want to deal with it!

I don’t want to do jogging when Jakartans are going to work, which means that many motorist and kopaja (Jakarta public bus) would be racing and speeding recklessly because they don’t want to be late. They, then, would get their way no matter what…. some of them would drive on the sidewalk!  On the top of that, the air would be highly polluted, which then cause me difficulty of breathing. In order to avoid all of those, I must leave my apartment at least by 5:30 or 6: 15 a.m the latest. However sometimes I do it later than 7 a.m sometimes.

The fact that I am working as a jurno, I also have an obligation to submit stories first thing in the morning. Indeed time management become very important for me. Since then, I have been learning and trying to be discipline in managing my time so I am able to submit stories before I do my jogging and still be able to go to gym (sometimes) and followed by meeting some sources or attending events or discussion at the same time. It’s not perfect tho but I am getting there.

Believe me or not, I usually start my day by 3 or 4 a.m. I would brew coffee, prepare fruit salad, wash my face or shower, write story while having coffee and fruit salad and go for jogging, continue write another story and go to work. I would reach home by 5 or 6 or 7 p.m and I would immediately sleep so I could have minimum of 6 hours sleep.

I must say that it is not easy. It is not easy at all to be discipline and manage time properly. If I failed, my mind would not be at peace and I would be cranky for the rest of the day.

For me, jogging is very important. It is because I have been taking strong medication, which has nausea and anxiety as side effect. In order to get rid of those side effects, I must do some cardio exercise.

As a bonus, I also leant that  if there is no adequate jogging path or sidewalk for jogging, I MUST  jog on the left shoulder facing on-coming traffic  and I should not wear training shoes for jogging on the road. Training shoes are fine to run on the treadmill or jogging track but they are uncomfortable yet painful for long distance jogging in rough surface.  Unfortunately  3 out of 4 my sport shoes are training shoes! So does it mean that I need to get new pair of running shoes? Well, perhaps! Ha ha ha!

Recently, many people often questioned me whether or not I have participated in the running event or runner club in Jakarta. Even one guy suggested me that I should be a running athlete. O.M.G! What? That is actually not bad idea at all. But I must say that I actually do jogging just because I want to be healthy and get rid of side effect of my medication. That is all matter to me.

Having said that I have never participated to any  running event or join to runner club. One of the reason is because  I don’t really have much time to do such a thing right now. Perhaps when I have been able to be discipline in managing my time properly, I would do it one day.

In the end of the day, health is the most important thing. I should not force myself to do all kind of activities -work, sport, hobby, socializing- as I am not a robot. I am just another person who wanna be healthy. Cheers!

Spirituality: Prayer Against Depression

O Jesus Christ, when all is darkness and we feel our weakness and helplessness, give us the sense of Your presence, Your love and Your strength.

Help us to have a perfect trust in Your protecting love and strengthening power so that nothing may frighten or worry us. For living close to you, we shall see Your hand, Your purpose and Your will through all things. Amen.  ** By Saint Ignatius of Loyola

Notes: Why Am I Blogging?

e44c7025-693d-4983-8cf2-a6dcbbb37b28Perhaps some of you wonder why I like to share my personal problem in social media, i.e blog. Well, I am the type of person who I always have a reason why I do thing things whether why I shave my hair off, why I go to the gym or even why I blog about my personal life.

So why do I blog about my personal life? Once I read a blog post saying that writing a journal would help our personal growth and development because it would give us an insight into our behaviour and moods. I kind of agree with that statement, especially I have been writing a personal diary since I was a little girl and have been blogging since I was 16. I found that writing a journal would help me to reflect on my life especially everything that I have been going through. On top of that, I also can review the improvement of my writing skill and my vocabulary bank.

But I must say that I am not kind of person who likes to share my problem with my friend.  It is not because I don’t trust them to keep my secret but I tend to not believe or trust their judgement. Not saying that they are wrong, it is just ….. their judgement tends to lead me to further confusion.

And the most annoying part of it is people would start being judgmental and telling you how wrong or even how stupid you are without understanding the circumstance. They would even start telling you that “you should not have done this and that… and bla bla bla

Oh well… I guess it is our problem, we tend to listen to respond than listen to understand why the thing is going wrong with somebody’s else life. Am I right?

And those are the last thing that I want to hear from others especially when I know very well that they are not in my shoes.  Yet, sometimes …. I still have a discussion with my friends also about my problem but not to seek for advice.

So what should I do if I need some advice? As I love reading the book and listening to music, I always would seek some advice from an inspirational book or inspirational songs. It helps me to reflect on my problem. Other than that, they would never judge me but tend to give me a wiser suggestion. That’s the best thing about it! Try it!

So that’s why I rather share my burden by blogging than talking to friends because I want to protect my feeling, to protect my heart and to prevent me from bad influences from others. But as humanely as possible,  I am trying my best to not posting a harmful or sensitive blog anyhow. So bear with me readers….

Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy my blog!

Review: The Magic of Homemade Rice and Coffee Scrub

Do know you that coffee bean and rice grain have a great benefit for your skin? [2014: EO]

Do know you that coffee bean and rice grain have a great benefit for your skin? [2014: EO]

In these last few years, I have been having a hard time to deal with my skin (oily and acne) problem. I have been seeing a number of dermatologist, purchasing the best a.k.a expensive skin care product and spending million rupiah to get rid of it but all I got was just a constant disappointment. Nothing worked well and caused me dependency! So, after the “innovation” of toothpaste face mask to get rid my acne, which works well and I still apply it to my face, I just discovered that I also can get rid of dull skin, black spot and to have a glowing skin by making my own homemade facial and body scrub with coffee bean and rice grain. How come? Below is the fun fact! According to my internet research, Dr. Leslie Baumann, a dermatologist at the University of Miami, was quoted by Elle Magazine Canada, mentioned that the caffeine in coffee can help to smoothen the skin and also remove the skin cancer cell by sun damage. She added that caffeine is an antioxidant, it helps to shrink the blood vessel and dehydrates fat cells.

Other than that, an article on Livestrong.com mentioned that coffee scrub can help to treat the redness and inflammation, get rid of cellulite and also smoothen the skin. In addition to that, coffee scrub also can help to get rid the dark under-eye circle. Meanwhile  Caroline Frazer, a skincare expert, was quoted by dailymail.co.uk, pointed out that that rice scrub helps to smoothen and brighten the skin because it contains pro-vitamin B5 and vitamin E. The article also mentioned that rice has been used by Japanese to get flawless skin for hundred years.

So….. since I found out about the great benefit of coffee and rice for my skin, I have been continuously making my own homemade facial scrub from coffee and rice on daily basis. Everyday, I scrub my face with it especially after I did an outdoor workout or used a make up, i.e powder. And guess what? After a month I applied it to my face, I have started to see the result of it where my facial skin is brighter, smother, firmer and glowing. Of course, I have been aware that it DOES NOT give me AN INSTANT best result but I see that the result comes GRADUALLY. Nowadays, I can start to see that the result coming, where I have so much less acne comparing than before. If I do have acne, it usually comes only 1 or 2 before my menstruation comes. On the top of that, I also can confidently go out with  my face naked, i.e I don’t have to use any foundation or bb cream to cover up my dull facial skin anymore. However sometimes I am still using powder, it depends on the occasion.  You can see the different on the picture below!

So how do you make your homemade rice and coffee scrub? It is very easy! Just grind two table spoon of rice and a table spoon of coffee bean together. Mix the powder with either mineral water, olive oil or honey. For me, I usually mix it with water only as I don’t particularly believe that the olive oil or honey that I bought 100 percent organic or natural. I am worried if it might contain some chemical, which might be harmful for my skin. You know … business people are tricky. They claim their product to be organic meanwhile some of them are not. So I rather to use mineral water. Lol! FYI, I also use the rice and coffee scrub for my body. I am glad that I found this great secret natural beauty recipe, which costs me small fortune and works well. I also don’t have to be worried with any chemical side effect for my face anymore because it is all organic and so far I have no side bad effect from it. Now I can save my money that I have been spending for skincare treatment product, which never worked, for something else.

Goodbye expensive skincare products! [2014: EO]

Goodbye expensive skincare products! [2014: EO]

It is amazing that actually we can find a health treatment in our own home. It is natural, organic and inexpensive. And you know…. this great “innovation” really helps me to minimise my spending  on cosmetic as well as helps me to minimize my consumption on chemical products, which tend to have a negative effect to my body. So farewell expensive chemical facial skin care products!

Music: Bad

Bad by Wale feat Tiara Thomas

Monogamy or whatever you call it
I’m starting to think it ain’t for everybody
Most of us is rushing into it anyways
Know what I’m sayin’

You ain’t rushin’ for love and I ain’t out here to judge
So lets neglect the what if’s and make it do what it does

Lets get it

Is it bad that, I never made love?
No I never did it
But I sure know how to fuck
I’ll be your bad girl, I’ll prove it to you
I can’t promise that I’ll be good to you
Cause I have some issues I won’t commit
No, not havin’ it
But at least I can admit
That I’ll be bad no to you (to you)
Yeah I’ll be good in bed
But I’ll be bad to you

Bad that, I never made love?
No I never did it
But I sure know how to fuck

Lets get it

Bad girls ain’t no good and the good girls ain’t no fun
And the hood girls want a smart niggaaaa
The college girls all want a thug
So it seems that fiend what we don’t need
Got a thing for a queen who know when to leave.
I ain’t about to judge you, don’t judge me
You ain’t gotta really sing about your rap sheet
Cause I heard you (bad no) yeah
In the literal sense I mean that
Rough sex saying I love you
But to kiss them saying you mean that (bad no)
I know I must be calling her mean ass
On the irony, got the bomb indeed
But the problem is probably a deep past
Still I’m feeling its something I need bad
Thinkin’ if I get her I get her to need this
I don’t need emotions to open your deep sea
I can see the ocean by going between your legs

Beg, nope, bed, floor, dope
Go, for it, couch, now, slow motion
Around, put it down
Lord know she as going for the morn
Hold up

Is it bad that, I never made love?
No I never did it
But I sure know how to fuck
I’ll be your bad girl, I’ll prove it to you
I can’t promise that I’ll be good to you
Cause I have some issues I won’t commit
No, not havin’ it
But at least I can admit
That I’ll be bad no to you (to you)
Yeah I’ll be good in bed
But I’ll be bad to you

She hurt feeling, she break hearts
She stay quiet, she play smart
She take pride, I’m going out
Getting hollered at, and saying nah
She no saint, but she don’t pose
She don’t wear make up by the boat load
Riding through the lake shore with the nose up
She don’t really date but it slows her up
She got haters but we all do
Heard you winter time cold, shawty fall through
Baby look at they approach how they court you
All those mind games never mind cause they all lose (bad no)
In the physical sense I mean that
I ain’t trynna kiss up, suck up, feed gas
I ain’t like them nigga you sucking your teeth at, nope
Play big trust me I’ll jumble your mean ass, look
Shawty is actually in prevent
Cause the one working in front
Is working with deep threat, yep

Bed, floor, couch, more
More, shower, Lord, perm
Done, love, nah
Called in the morning
Cell number wasn’t on, God

Is it bad that, I never made love?
No I never did it
But I sure know how to fuck
I’ll be your bad girl, I’ll prove it to you
I can’t promise that I’ll be good to you
Cause I have some issues I won’t commit
No, not havin’ it
But at least I can admit
That I’ll be bad no to you (to you)
Yeah I’ll be good in bed
But I’ll be bad to you

Bad that, I never made love
No I never did it
But I sure know how to fuck
I’ll be your ….

Notes: I Will Raise My Voice and Holler

You were always inconsistent doing something and then being sorry. Beating my heart to death talking bout you sorry. Well I will not call, I’m not going to be nice. I will raise my voice, scream and holler, break things and race the engine and tell all your secrets bout yourself to your face. I won’t be sorry for none of it. I loved you on purpose I was open on purpose. I still crave vulnerability and loose talk. I’m not even sorry bout you being sorry. You can carry all the guilt and grime ya wanna just don’t give it to me. – Jo (For Colored Girls)
