Indonesia: First Lady vs Myself Part II

Warning: Please read about before you read the rest of the blog and leave comment. Thank you!

And... I was blocked by the Indonesia's First Lady [2014: E O]

And… I was blocked by the Indonesia’s First Lady [2014: E O]

Ayo… I just want to post a very short blog and interesting one about Indonesia’s First Lady Ani Yudhoyono. Many of you might have noticed that the Indonesia’s First Lady is a drama queen and could not handle any “negative” comment or criticism from her followers in Instagram.

Her actions in Instagram have made headline in media for number of occasions simply because she could not deal with any “negative” comment or criticism. Once I experienced it by myself when I made comment about her burberry scarf and she was overly defensive about herself.

Oh well even though she is the Indonesia’s First Lady, it doesn’t mean that she is correct, always right and never made any mistake at all. So here I was today, sent a simple comment about the picture that she posted yesterday. In that photo, the caption said “Byeee as well…” so I replied “Mana ada Byeeee as well Bu @Aniyudhoyono”. My English might not be  as good as I expected but come on… it’s Indonesia’s First Lady or her staff…. They should know better.

"Byeee as well" Ibu Ani (team) said [2014:E O]

“Byeee as well” Ibu Ani (team) said [2014:E O]

Anyway, just within 2 minutes, I checked her instagram again and guess what? I was BLOCKED by her! What does that mean? It means that Ibu Ani has recognised all my “negative” comments and got irritated with them all. So in order to avoid the chronicle stressed, she or her team decided to block me.

I would consider her action as an achievement for me. It seems to me that she is ANI-CRITICISM! Well… well… well!  It’s not surprising for me as well as for many Indonesian citizens to see her silly action.  I guess she shouldn’t be in social media at all!

Indonesia: Indonesia’s First Lady vs Myself

I love fashion and I am allergic to counterfeit. Fashion is a piece of art that is why it is very important for designer to register their trademark, therefore it would not be copied. But apparently the Indonesia’s First Lady Ani Yudhoyono loves to wear FAKE Burberry. She said that she purchased her scarf in factory outlet and the real stuff is not sold in the factory outlet but authorised shop in Senayan City or Plaza Indonesia. It is way better that she is wearing batik than fake burberry scarf.  Am I right?

I think Ibu Ani needs to learn about fashion from her daughter in-law Annisa Pohan, who is a former model. What do you think?

Notes: Two Side Of A Coin

Somebody asked me “Aren’t you feeling ashamed to air your dirty laundry here?” So I answered “I often display the beautiful part of my life, today I air my dirty laundry at the same place. Why? Because I just wanna be a real person, there are two sides of a coin. Right?

Notes: Social Media Detox

Gadget freak [2012: E O]

Gadget freak [2012: E O]

When you go out to restaurant, bar or coffee shop, you might often see that a group of friends are hanging out together, sitting at the same table but they are just busy with their own gadget. Have you ever seen that? Or do you do as well?

Well, I have to admit that I do that also when I hang out with my friends because they do it as well. I am not trying to justify my action.

So few days ago I met Anita, my former colleague. We had an interesting conversation about social media detox. Well, we actually talked about digital detox but I would narrow it down to social media detox. What? Social media detox? What is it all about?

Well, let me start by saying that gadget and social media is very addictive for some people, including myself. I have been actively using social media, e.g Friendster, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Path , since 2005 when I knew Friendster.com.

As time passed by, there are more and more interesting social media in the internet from hi5, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and now Path.  The worse is the development of technology, especially smartphone and tablet which provide us with  web-ready mobile phones and various of social media application. It makes me just want to check out what the latest news, gossip or whats going on with my friends on the social media.

But the question is do I really need those updates? Why do I need those updates?

I come to realize that since I have been using smartphone and addicted to social media, I no longer have a meaningful conversation with my friends and people around me. Even though, we are still hanging out together for lunch or dinner but we are just busy with our smartphone and check out what’s on the social media. We don’t really care why we are here together.

Other than that, social media creates a jealousy and makes people being mean ass toward their own friend without really knowing the truth. It also leads us to an ugly competition because of jealousy toward our own friend, simply because what we see in social media and people love to show off or share their experience or lifestyle in social media.

For instance “Oh how come she can get a Christian Louboutin shoes? What does she do? She must be a whore or slut. She must be a prostitute.”  or “O My God… doesn’t she know that she is ugly? She shouldn’t take that kind of selfie picture.” Or Oh… She travelled to Paris. It must be her boyfriend financed it.  This and that….

There are just so many negative comments from my head about other people’s life, which I actually don’t really know what is going on exactly and not one of them is our business.

So after having conversation with Anita, I decided to do a social media detox. But what is a social media detox? According to my understanding, social media detox is a therapy to remove our addiction to social media by turning off all social media account. Hence during my unpaid leave for my medication, I deactivated my Facebook, Twitter, singed out from path and deleted Instagram account. What? Delete? Yes, you read it right! I DELETE it. (Surely I would miss the silly comment of Indonesia’s First Lady, Ibu Ani Yudhoyono, in Instagram who gets irritated easily with her follower comments)

Not just that, I also deleted those social media application from my Blackberry and iPhone as well as iPad. And. I start to go out with book to read; meet up with people to have a fruitful conversation about anything.

So now the question is what is the purpose of having smartphone then? I even have two. Well….  I still can use my smartphone for receiving email and sending email plus blogging. I love blogging, I have been blogging since 2005 even though it’s not really general issue but more into personal matter but I enjoyed it anyway.

Other than that, I also can read other blogger’s post, which can inspire me in so many different ways. Be it about life, fashion, business, traveling and also Hollywood gossip.

Beside that, I also have a new hobby now, which is watching YouTube channel. I have subscribed to some interesting channel such as CrashCourse, BrainCraft, It’s Okay to Be Smart and also spacerip. When I get bored with all those scientific channel, I usually will watch my favorite singer vevo channel from Rihanna, Eminem, T.I, Tupac to Snoop Dogg.

I just have so much fun enjoying those YouTube channel. It really helps me to exercise my brain, entertain myself in different kind of way and enlarge my knowledge.

Meanwhile two weeks ago, I met my former editor. We had a very interesting conversation about life. She gave a very wise advice to turn off my social media accounts. Instead, I should read more books, newspaper and magazine to exercise my brains. She lent me a couple of Indonesia literature books, written by Umar Kayam and Leila Chudori. It was very kind of her

She also said to me “Look around you. Try to connect face to face with people, as much as you can. Look them in the eye when you talk to them. Do as much good as you can, when you can.

As I reflected to what she said to me, I think she is 100 percent correct. I look back into my life in these last couple of years, I just live my life in the gadget and social media, while I only hang around with small circle of people. But still we are being busy with our gadget, either reading email, chatting with instant messenger or fart around on social media while hang out with other people. We really have been disconnecting with real world and real life. We just live behind the screen.

The question is now being despite the fact technology/gadget has been helping our work efficiently, when will we get tired to use our gadget in our daily life and want to get back into out real life as social being? Will we be able to sit down together with other to have a meaningful conversation again without carrying our gadget and being busy with all those social media?

But wait…. the obstacles remain. Even though I enjoyed this whole social media detox  for one week,  as a media worker I actually really need to use social media, especially twitter to get myself aware of the current issue. It sucks when I don’t get myself updated with the latest current issue and it’s embarrassing.

I didn’t even know when Anas Urbaningrum was arrested by KPK or I didn’t even know that the Indonesian tycoon Bakrie Family invested their money on PATH. What? I usually get myself updated and know the latest information. So what should I do now? Should I activate my twitter and Facebook again? (Well I just did anyway because of work purpose. )

In the end of the day, it actually comes down to how we use  social media. Doesn’t it? It has been a week since I did social media detox. So should I get back to use so social media again but change how the way I use it? Or should I stay doing the social media detox? What do you think?

Perhaps next I will do digital detox? We’ll see

The Power of Social Media: My Rude Complaint to Equinox and X2 Management Got Respond

It was early Saturday morning. A memory of a bad incident was flashing to my mind. An incident where I lost my hand bag in Equinox Club, Senayan and I lost a blackberry torch, Rp 800,000 of cash, Mandiri ATM card, HSBC credit card, apartment key, apartment pass card, press card and a driving license. An incident, where I had to ask the security guard to break down the door at 4:00 AM. An incident, where my cash was being stolen from my ATM.

An incident which happened on Friday night ,  17 September 2011.

An incident, where I swore to myself that I would never come back to Equinox anymore even I did enjoying the atmosphere there.

The reason that I did not want to go back to Equinox anymore because Equinox did not give me a positive respond on how they would help me toward my case at the first place when I told them that I lost my handbag. Instead, a girl name Marsha said arrogantly to me that their security was not only taking care of one person. (Of course, I have acknowledged that but could you please give me other positive respond as your customer was getting panic for losing her stuff?)

As I was super panic, I lost my temper, I screamed to Marsha and I said FVCK YOU BITCH! (Of course, you could not expect me to treat you nicely when you responded me arrogantly. No! You don’t go around the fire and expect not to sweat!) Remember that you guys are selling a service and I paid for that.

Actually, I often tried to force myself to move on and forget bad thing which happened into my life but sometimes I think about it more than I can ever forget it. Four weeks later after the incident at Equinox, I went back to the club with my friends (because my friends asked me to go) but I just could not forget what happened, I could not accept or even forget on how the way the treat me and I just cried. No! It did not matter that I lost my stuff but I was so annoyed on how arrogant they treated me. (Come on… I pay for your service)

Other than that, as I have been going out to Equinox almost every Friday night in the past a year, I acknowledged that the bartender (at the big bar) at Equinox were often cheating on the customer by (1) increasing the price of the drink when the customer pay in cash or (2) never giving back the change. It is kinda annoying that they cheated on their own customer because Equinox will get a bad reputation. I mean, if you wanted tips, your generous customer will give you but do not steal from the. (In a fact, many people shared the same story to me but they just do not speak up and prefer to not go to Equinox anymore) . But, well as I said earlier that by being a saint, nobody would be able to make some cash to purchase for some basic need. Hence they cheat on their customer.

So after some shits that happened to me every time I went to Equinox for fun, I decided to send a complain over twitter by saying:

@OktofaniE I suddenly want to say FVCK YOU @_X2_ @equinoxjkt. You let many thief entering as the entrance fee is so cheap and becoming your own staffs!

@OktofaniE tweet on complaining over X2 service

Few hours later after I sent the twitter complain, I got a respond from the manager of Equinox on the twitter, they offered me to hold a meeting and explaining what happened. To make a long story short, I agreed and I was glad to get a positive attitude from the Marketing Director of Equinox, they promised to follow-up and would have another meeting.

@_X2_ tweet on responding my complain via twitter

@marcohermawan (X2 DOSM) tweet on responding my twitter complain

To be frank, although they have apologized to me but the second meeting was quite disappointing because FIRSTLY I met with the Marsha girl, she was trying to explain what happened and she was also being so arrogantly defensive about her attitude. She said that I have violated human right by screaming at her and saying FVCK YOU BITCH! (I did not give a damn about what she said, because she was acting arrogantly when I told her what happened that night. You got for what you paid! Other than that, I will not poke you if you did not poke me at the first place.)

SECONDLY, they said to me that I used very rude word on the twitter when I complain about their service. Yeah! I admitted that I used the rude word. I used the word FVCK to show my big disappointment to them on how arrogant they treated their customer. I know you guys would be on fire a.k.a kebakaran jenggot when I used the word and that is what I called ‘the power of social media’

Nowadays, people use social media to  push some parties to solve a problem. I believe that I was not the only victim at the Equinox, either from the pick pocket case or the cheating bartender case. I prefer to speak up what’s on my mind even with a shaking voice

The power of twitter

Although I have had many  fabulous Friday night in the club  in the past one year  [I met my wedding dress designer there (who is now becoming my friend-thanks to Andie Oyong to link me with her), I met my best friend who helped me to bring my spiritual life back, I met some of great people who become my sources for my article],  I will try to not go back there anymore because I am very disappointed with either X2 or Equinox especially with not well-trained staff.

X2 and Equinox have been such a great place to hang out but I would try to not go back there because I just want to move on and I do not want to be hurt with such an arrogant attitude when I know I deserve better than that.

Although you guys were willing to solve the problem, tried to apologize and offered me VIP member card for free, but it was little too late because it was so painful when you ‘kicked’ me when I was down with your staff arrogant attitude. However, I will try to get rid of all the pains, let no hard feeling stay in my heart, move on and will never go back to X2.

Anyway, I would like to suggest to X2 and Equinox that  they must provide a proper waiter training including a crisis management training because you are in hospitality business and you will be providing service. Unless you improve your staff attitude on how to serve the customer, your customer will slowly leave your club. Perhaps, you can check this link for the references.
