Notes: I Love Cooking

Preparation for ‘Tumis Daun Pucuk Labu’ [2013: Oktofani]

When it comes to food, I am actually quiet picky! I’d rather having a good homemade Indonesian food for lunch than having cheese burger and french fries from McDonald or steak with baked potato from any fancy good restaurant for dinner.

Since I moved to Jakarta, I always have a problem to find a good yet delicious homemade Indonesian food especially Javanese dish in Jakarta. Well, I would say that I can find hundred of them selling those homemade Indonesian food but most of them were tasteless. Whether the soto ayam is too oily, fried chicken is not well fried or tumis kangkung is too salty. It sucks.  Man… I need a real food! I need a healthy, clean yet delicious Indonesian food.

Therefore, as I have been taught how to cook  and any kind of recipes are available online, I start to use my cooking knowledge to cook my favorite Indonesian dish such as pepes ikan kembung, tumis kacang panjang, cah bayam, tempe goreng, pepes tahu, tumis daun singkong ikan teri, sayur asem, empal gepuk, tumis daging sapi or tumis bunga pepaya.

Sometimes I also make Western food such as broccoli pasta, salmon steak or beef steak. But it is very rarely.

I always make sure that I have complete source of nutrition on the table for my family. I always make a vegetable dish, meat or fish, rice and sambal in my dining table.  I love the idea of always having healthy food. It is just perfect for everybody! I even am in love with my own cooking! I love cooking!

Actually I like the idea of fancy dining in a good French, Italian or Japanese restaurant with a good bottle of wine. I like the culture of it where we can enjoy our meal, have fun and have a conversation over wine. But I am just not a big fans of Western food.

You know what they say? You can take the girl out of the village but you cannot take the village out of her. I love Indonesian food so much.

Photo: Canada

Coming from a tropical country such as Indonesia, I used to dream to go to the Western Country to have a white Christmas. Wearing a pair of knee boots, long black stylist winter coat and colorful scarf while doing some window shopping in down town Toronto, London or New York City.

Or the idea of having outdoor Christmas tree light, snow, candy cane, Christmas gift and any other Christmas decoration in every corner of the town from the street to family house or churches to the shops, it seems that white Christmas is very magical. But I had no idea how freezing cold the winter would be.

So here I was… Christmas 2011, I went to Canada for nearly one month. Finally, I knew what the white Christmas is. Despite the fact the ambience is very magical and romantic, I must admit that winter sucks BIG TIME! It is so freaking cold! I must wear multi-layers of clothes. Geez! I am so blessed to be born and come from a place with a wonderful weather just like Indonesia.

Nevertheless its suckness (that sometimes I miss), I really like Canada. It is such a beautiful yet organized place. There are so many old historical beautiful buildings (I love old historical building). While I was in Canada, I did not go to many places. I only went to Ottawa, Halifax, Toronto and Montreal.

I am looking forward to another trip to Canada but in different time of the year. Preferably during the summer time.

Anyway, here I am sharing some snapshots from my trip to North America.

Photo: Kenya

In the end of 2009, I had the opportunity to visit Kenya, East Africa. It was my first big trip to travel to another side of the world. In my wildest dream as a 22 years old Indonesian girl, I had never thought that I want to go to Africa for holiday especially media have been repeatedly portrayed Africa as a ‘scary’ holiday destination.

Apparently, Kenya is such an idylic place with beautiful scenery. While I was in Kenya,  we went for camping at Maasai Mara for three days, went to Lake Magadi and Diani beach. I really enjoyed my trip to Kenya. It was quiet different and adventurous.

Here I am sharing some of my snapshots from my trip. The pictures were taken with Casio Exilim pocket camera. I was not really satisfied with the picture. Hence some of the pictures were edited with iPhoto. I hope you enjoy those pictures.

I am looking forward for more trip to another African country in the near future.

Cheers

Spirituality: The Prayer for The Family

The Holy Family of Nazareth [2013: Oktofanu]

The Holy Family of Nazareth [2013: Oktofanu]

Lord God, from You every family in heaven and on earth takes its name.

Father, you are Love and Life.

Through your Son, Jesus Christ, born of woman, and through Holy Spirit, fountain of devini charity, grant that every family on earth may become for each successive generation a true shrine of life and love.

Grant that Your grace may guide the thoughts and actions of husbands and wives for the good their family and of all the families in the world.

Grant that the young may find in the family solid support for their human dignity and for their growth in truth and love.

Grant that love, strengthened by the Sacrament of marriage, may prove mightier than all the weaknesses and trial through which our family sometimes pass.

Through the intercession of the Holy Family of Nazareth, grant that church may fruitfully carry out her worldwide mission in and through the family.

Through Christ our Lord, Who is the Way, the Truth and the Life for ever and ever. Amen.

Notes: Tiring Trip To Yogyakarta

What a tiring 15 hours road trip from Jakarta to Yogyakarta on Saturday?! But I’m happy that I did this trip because I could  escape from the hustle bustle of Jakarta for few days.

Anyway, this is my second road trip from Jakarta to Yogyakarta. I usually would prefer to take 8 hours of night executive train or an hour of flight, but this time I somehow want to take this long tiring trip. I don’t know why on earth I wanna do this.

Taking the south route from Jakarta to Cikampek – Cipularang – Bandung – Cileunyi – Rancaekek – Nagreg – Malangbong –  Ciawi – Ciamis – Banjar – Lumbir – Banyumas – Buntu – Sumpiuh – Kebumen – Kulonprogo – Purworejo – Wates – Yogyakarta.

Left Jakarta at 8 a.m, arrived in Yogyakarta at 11: 30 pm. Stopped in a couple of places for lunch and fuel. Oh what a tiring road trip?!

On my way to Yogyakarta, I saw a terrible accident of motorcycle was run by a truck somewhere in Central Java around 7 pm. It was shocking. I was shocked. But I did not want to stop to check out. My car was also close, very close run by couple of big vehicle a couple of times, truck and bus.

All those truck and bus drivers were just so crazy. They just want to get to their destination as fast as possible without thinking about their own and other people safety. Why on earth you wanna arrive in your destination an hour earlier by risking yourself?! Don’t you think about your family at home?! Jesus!

I’m not sure that I wanna take this road trip to Yogyakarta again. But who knows? I always change my mind.

I would take a north route on my way back to Jakarta as it is faster.

Ummm I got not much to say here…. My mind is not at peace. So I end my writing here.

Notes: Save Your Sorry

Save your sorry. One thing I don’t need is any more apologies. I got sorry greeting me at my front door. You can keep yours. I don’t know what to do with them. I’m gonna have to throw some away I can’t get to the clothes in my closet for all the sorries. I’m gonna tack a sign on my door, leave a message by the phone. If you called to say you’re sorry, call somebody else.

*

You were always inconsistent doing something and then being sorry. Beating my heart to death talking bout you sorry. Well I will not call, I’m not going to be nice. I will raise my voice, scream and holler, break things and race the engine and tell all your secrets bout yourself to your face. I won’t be sorry for none of it. I loved you on purpose I was open on purpose. I still crave vulnerability and loose talk. I’m not even sorry bout you being sorry. You can carry all the guilt and grime ya wanna just don’t give it to me. – Jo (For Colored Girls)

Notes: Pay Attentions to The Sign

God give us warnings to prevent what comes from falling into sin. But if we do ignore and fall, confession cleanses us within – Sper

Couple nights ago, I had an odd nightmare about a random man was killing a beautiful blue yellow snake in a random kitchen when the snake tried to attack me.

I vividly remembered that actually I was trying to remove the snake from the table because it scared many people. At first, I did not want to kill the snake as it is believed to bring a bad luck to my life. So I went to get a large box, planned to put the snake in it and throw it away. (It seems that I was trying being heroic hu? Well it was in my dream)

Unfortunately, when I got the snake tail and tried to place it into the box, the snake gripped my arms and tried to bite me. Luckily, a random male chef helped me, grabbed the snake, chopped the head off  and removed its poison.

According to references that I read in the internet about some dream interpretations, it means that I will win a fight against my competitor or enemy but with somebody’s help.

Meanwhile, I had another odd nightmare about falling from an airplane but I was directly rescued. According to dream interpretation articles, it means that I would face a problem but somebody is going to help me directly.

Honestly, those nightmare were quite bothering my mind since then.  I keep wondering what kind of competition or fight, which I am going to have. When will it happen? Who will be my competitor or enemy? What kind of problem? Who is going to save me?

Ummm… I guess I must be patient and wait until it comes. But I must be prepared for it.  Some people might think that I am being superstitious but  I believe that God send warnings to protect us.

Oh well, I think I should not be worried too much about it but be conscious about everything’s around me. I just need to pay attentions to those signs.
